COLLEGE STATION, TX — The Alan Stalcup Scholarship continues its mission of investing in students who are driven to lead, serve, and create a lasting impact in their communities. The program’s newest recipient, John Reed, is pursuing his MBA at Texas A&M University in College Station, building on his professional experience in philanthropy and community recovery across the Texas Hill Country.

For John, leadership is more than a professional goal — it is an opportunity to help communities navigate challenges, recover, and emerge stronger for the future.

Through his work with the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, John has played a role in supporting communities affected by the devastating July 2025 floods and the flooding that has continued across the region. His work brings him alongside nonprofits, schools, and local organizations seeking resources to address immediate needs while building long-term resilience.

Each day, John helps review and fund projects focused on areas including mental health, community recovery, and long-term rebuilding. The experience has given him a firsthand understanding of what it takes to respond effectively when communities face extraordinary circumstances.

It has also reinforced the importance of strong leadership, responsible financial decision-making, and collaboration.

John’s goal is to continue growing as a leader in philanthropy and disaster recovery, helping organizations make thoughtful decisions about where resources can create the greatest impact. By earning his MBA from Texas A&M, he hopes to strengthen the business, financial, and leadership skills that will allow him to take on greater responsibility and serve communities more effectively.

With the support of the Alan Stalcup Scholarship, John can reduce some of the financial burden associated with graduate school while remaining focused on both his education and the work that matters deeply to him.

“Every day, I work with nonprofits, schools, and local organizations to review and fund projects focused on mental health, community recovery, and long-term resilience,” John shared. “Those experiences have shown me how important strong leadership, sound financial decision-making, and collaboration are when helping communities rebuild after a disaster.”

His story reflects an important part of the Alan Stalcup Scholarship’s mission: supporting education not simply as an individual achievement, but as a tool students can use to create opportunities and meaningful change for others.

The Alan Stalcup Scholarship was created to remove barriers for hardworking students and invest in individuals committed to building stronger futures. Each recipient represents the next generation of business leaders, healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs, educators, and community advocates who have the potential to make an impact far beyond the classroom.

Supporting students like John means investing in leadership that is already making a difference. His work throughout the Texas Hill Country demonstrates how education, sound decision-making, and a commitment to service can come together to help communities recover and prepare for what comes next.

As John continues his MBA studies at Texas A&M University, he is not waiting until graduation to make an impact. He is already putting his experience and passion to work for communities across the Texas Hill Country — and his graduate education will help equip him to do even more.
