DECATUR, GA — The Alan Stalcup Scholarship continues its mission of investing in students who are driven to grow, lead, and make a lasting impact in the lives of others. The program’s newest recipient, Lauren Forney, is completing a post-baccalaureate pre-medical program at Agnes Scott College as she prepares for the next step in her journey: medical school.
For Lauren, the dream of becoming a physician started long before college.
One of her favorite childhood photos shows her running around the house in a pair of “Doctor in Training” scrubs. At just four years old, she was already determined to become a doctor—diagnosing teddy bears, handing out Band-Aids, and believing she could make everything better.
While her understanding of medicine has grown considerably since then, the purpose behind that childhood dream has remained.
Today, Lauren is turning that early ambition into action. Through rigorous science coursework, volunteer experiences, and research opportunities, she has continued building the academic and practical foundation necessary to pursue medical school and ultimately become a physician.
Her goal extends beyond treating illness. Lauren hopes to become a physician who provides compassionate care while helping patients better understand their own health, particularly in communities where access to reliable health information and quality care may be limited.
With the support of the Alan Stalcup Scholarship, Lauren can continue investing in the education and experiences that will prepare her for medical school and a career dedicated to caring for others.
“The little girl who ran around in those scrubs dreamed of healing the world,” Lauren shared. “Today, I’m doing the work to make that dream a reality.”
For Lauren, the scholarship represents more than financial support. It represents a community of people who believe in where she is headed and want to see her succeed.
