THORNVILLE, OH — The Alan Stalcup Scholarship continues its mission of investing in students who are driven to grow, lead, and make a lasting impact in their communities. The program’s newest recipient, Adelyn Harr, is a graduating senior from Thornville, Ohio, whose academic excellence, determination, and commitment to serving others have positioned her for an extraordinary future in medicine.
For Adelyn, success has been built through perseverance, discipline, and a clear vision for the future.
As the valedictorian of her graduating class and the first person in her family to pursue a college degree, Adelyn has embraced every opportunity to excel academically. By completing the maximum of 30 college credit hours during both her junior and senior years of high school, she will begin college with an impressive 66.5 college credits, placing her on track to earn her bachelor’s degree in just three years.
Her next step will be attending Ohio University, where she has earned admission into the highly competitive BS/DO Accelerated (3+4) Program in partnership with the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. Her ultimate goal is to become the first physician in her family, providing compassionate care to patients while giving back to the communities that shaped her.
With the support of the Alan Stalcup Scholarship, Adelyn can continue pursuing those goals with less financial burden. The scholarship will help cover undergraduate tuition and educational expenses as she transitions to Ohio University’s main campus while allowing her to focus on maintaining a competitive GPA, gaining clinical experience, shadowing physicians, and preparing for the demanding journey through medical school.
Already taking meaningful steps toward her future career, Adelyn recently became a medical assistant working alongside both a dermatologist and an internist. This hands-on experience is providing valuable insight into patient care, medical practice management, and the day-to-day responsibilities of becoming a physician.
“Being selected for this scholarship would not only ease the financial pressure on my family and me, but it would also allow me to focus fully on my academics and strengthen my experiences within the medical field in preparation for medical school,” Adelyn shared. “This would bring me one step closer to becoming a physician, allowing me to serve patients with experiences similar to my own.”
