ATLANTA, GA — The Alan Stalcup Scholarship continues its mission of investing in students who are driven to use their education, talents, and leadership to create meaningful opportunities for others. Scholarship recipient Taylor Richardson is continuing her education at Morehouse School of Medicine, where she is enrolled in the Master of Science in Medical Sciences program as she prepares for medical school and a future career as a physician.
Taylor recently graduated cum laude from Spelman College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Biology Honors Distinction. Her academic accomplishments are part of a much larger goal: becoming a physician who serves underserved communities and helps address disparities in healthcare.
Throughout her undergraduate education, Taylor combined her interest in science and medicine with research, community service, and leadership.
Her experiences included participating in infectious disease research at Emory, contributing to community health initiatives, and serving as Health & Wellness Co-Chair for the Spelman NAACP. Together, these opportunities strengthened her understanding of the connection between scientific research, access to healthcare, and the communities medical professionals serve.
For Taylor, however, pursuing medicine is about more than becoming a physician. It is also about helping others recognize possibilities for their own futures.
Outside of the classroom, she has worked to expand young people’s access to books and opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through Take Flight with a Book and her advocacy as Astronaut StarBright.
These efforts reflect Taylor’s belief in the importance of representation, particularly for young people who may not always see individuals who look like them represented in medicine and STEM careers.
“My ultimate goal is to earn my medical degree and become a physician who helps address health disparities while continuing to encourage young people, especially those who may not always see themselves represented in medicine and STEM, to dream beyond what they believe is possible,” Taylor shared.
Her education at Morehouse School of Medicine represents the next step toward that goal. Through the Master of Science in Medical Sciences program, Taylor is continuing to strengthen her scientific foundation as she prepares to pursue a medical degree.
Support from the Alan Stalcup Scholarship will help Taylor continue investing in her education and the experiences that are preparing her for a future in medicine.
